Rep. Blames Owner, Regulator For Utah Mine Collapse

Law360 (May 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The chairman of the congressional committee investigating the fatal August 2007 collapse at Utah's Crandall Canyon Mine has blamed owner Murray Energy Corp. for submitting a "flawed" plan and the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration for approving it.

Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor, announced the conclusions of his committee's probe on Thursday.

He has referred the mine operator's general manager to federal prosecutors, he said.
