Invitrogen Strikes Deal For Stem Cell Patents

Law360, New York (May 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Life sciences firm Invitrogen Corp. has struck a deal with the nonprofit Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation to license three human embryonic stem cell patents that have come under siege by scientists who believe they are invalid.

The agreement allows Invitrogen to use the three 10-year-old patents, which the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office upheld in a controversial ruling last year, to develop new technology for researching and discovering new drugs, the company said in announcing the contract May 8.
