USPTO To Publish Proposal for Patent Attorney Recertification on Friday

Law360, New York (December 9, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will publish its proposal to require recertification of registered patent attorneys on Friday, USPTO Director of Enrollment and Discipline Harry Moatz said at the PTO Day conference on Monday.

The proposal calls for attorneys to either take USPTO-approved Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses or answer an online set of questions for which the USPTO will provide reading materials. Registered attorneys will pay a $100 annual fee.
