Argentina Bids For E.U. Help In Monsanto Roundup Row

Law360 (March 7, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A long-running feud between biotech giant Monsanto Co. and Argentina over royalty payments on genetically modified Roundup Ready soybeans has reached a boiling point, prompting the country to solicit intervention by the European Commission.

In its bid to assert its patent rights on Roundup Ready in Europe, the U.S.-based company has launched a legal campaign against soy importers in Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain and blocked six shipments of Argentine soymeal in the past year.
