Senate Advances Controversial 4th Circ. Nominee

Law360, Washington (July 24, 2014, 3:34 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Senate on Wednesday advanced the controversial nomination of Georgetown University Law Center visiting professor Pamela Harris for a spot on the Fourth Circuit bench.

The senators voted 54-41 to invoke cloture on Harris' nomination, and the final confirmation vote is slated for July 28.

“She understands what the judiciary is all about,” Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., said before the roll call vote.

Harris received negative attention from Republicans during her confirmation hearing last month due to her prominent liberal political views.
