TomTom, Tele Atlas Merger Cleared By EU

Law360, New York (May 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission has approved the merger of TomTom NV and Tele Atlas NV despite early competition concerns.

The commission said on Wednesday that it had approved the proposed €2.9 billion merger of the two navigation-device makers. Regulators said that an in-depth investigation into potential competition issues raised by the deal had determined that the merger would not impede competition in the market for satellite navigation systems.
