$23M Award Upheld In Scrap Metal Antitrust Case

Law360, New York (May 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An appeals court has affirmed a $23 million damages award finding Columbia Iron and Metal Co. liable for alleged antitrust violations in the scrap metal industry.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit said Thursday that a district court was correct in entering a $23 million judgment against Columbia after a jury returned a verdict finding that the company had conspired to restrain and eliminate competition in the purchase of unprocessed industrial scrap metal in northeastern Ohio.
