Exxon Unit Hit With $8M Verdict For Kidney Cancer

Law360 (May 16, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A state court jury in San Francisco has awarded $8 million to a veteran employee of Exxon Mobil Corp. subsidiary SeaRiver Maritime Inc. who claimed he developed kidney cancer after being exposed to toxins on the job.

On May 12, the jury returned an 11-1 verdict finding that SeaRiver, which was formerly known as Exxon Shipping Co., was negligent in failing to provide plaintiff Mack Shelby with a safe place to work and that that negligence played a part in causing his kidney cancer.
