BMW, GM Change Policies After EC Launches Probe

Law360 (March 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A European Commission investigation into possible trade restriction by BMW AG and General Motors Corp. has led the automakers to allow their dealers to sell and service other brands.

The EC had opened an investigation into whether the car dealers’ practice of only allowing their own brands to be distributed and serviced at their dealerships restricted the way dealers did business.

The investigation came at the behest of several car dealers, who claimed that both GM and BMW policies violated EC competition law.
