Patent Filings and Licensing Revenue Rise at U.S. Universities

Law360, New York (December 10, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- U.S. academic institutions filed 13% more patent applications in 2002 and executed 15% more licensing agreements than the previous year, the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) reported Tuesday.

“From the smallest colleges to the largest universities and leading research facilities, organizations are creating the infrastructure to translate the fruits of their research into products that serve the public good. And that’s one measure of success that is unquantifiable,” said Patricia Harsche Weeks, President of the AUTM.
