Lawmakers Ask Drug Companies To Improve Ads

Law360, New York (May 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two members of the U.S. House of Representatives have asked four major drug companies to adopt practices aimed at reducing deceptive and misleading direct-to-consumer advertisements.

Michigan Democrats John D. Dingell and Bart Stupak, the leaders of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, sent the letter Tuesday to Pfizer Inc., Merck & Co., Johnson & Johnson and Schering-Plough Corp., asking them to follow the American Medical Association's guidelines on the use of actors and health professionals in DTC ads.
