Bay Area To Charge Businesses For Emissions

Law360, New York (May 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Regulators in the San Francisco Bay Area may have become the first in the nation to approve rules that force companies to pay fees for emitting greenhouse gases.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District's board of directors voted 15-1 Wednesday to charge companies 4.4 cents per ton of carbon dioxide they emit. The fees will take effect in July.
