Report Links Chantix To Seizures, Heart Trouble

Law360, New York (May 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc.'s anti-smoking drug Chantix, which is already subject to U.S. Food and Drug Administration warnings for increased risk of depression and suicide, may be linked to heart rhythm disturbances, seizures and loss of consciousness, a new report suggests.

According to Wednesday's report by the nonprofit Institute for Safe Medication Practices, Chantix, or varenicline, accounted for 988 serious injuries in the U.S. reported to the FDA, more than any other individual drug in the fourth quarter of 2007.
