Australian Court Upholds Pfizer's Lipitor Patent

Law360, New York (May 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An Australian court has dismissed Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s appeal of an order that prevented the drugmaker from launching a generic version of Pfizer Inc.'s anti-cholesterol drug Lipitor.

On Wednesday, the Federal Court of Australia in Victoria dismissed Ranbaxy's appeal of a previous court order that enjoined the generics company from infringing a Pfizer patent for Lipitor. The court also dismissed Pfizer's appeal of a court order that revoked another underlying patent for Lipitor.
