Sick Time Can Be Used For Family: Calif. Court

Law360, New York (May 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Under California law, companies that allow employees to take paid time off when they are sick must also let them use paid sick leave to care for ill family members, a California appeals court has ruled in a case involving the Pacific Bell Telephone Co.

In a ruling issued Friday, the Court of Appeal for the State of California, First Appellate District, reversed a 2006 summary judgment in favor of Pacific Bell and remanded the case to the Alameda County Superior Court for further proceedings....
