EU Invites Comment On Auto Emissions Labeling

Law360, New York (June 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In an effort to provide automobile buyers with clearer environmental standards labeling, the European Commission has launched a public consultation to study possible changes in the type of information car companies are asked to provide about fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

A recent study showed that the commission's CO2 labeling directive was not achieving its goals of providing information to consumers about gas efficiency and emissions statistics for new cars and that amendments are needed, the EC said Monday.
