Abbott Recalls Low-Calcium Baby Formula

Law360, New York (June 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Abbott Laboratories has begun an international recall of two lots of its low-calcium, vitamin-D-free infant formula with iron powder after finding that air may have seeped into the cans and oxidized the product.

The pharmaceutical company agreed to recall its Calcilo XD formula last week, warning consumers that an “off” smell from the product may indicate oxidation. The recall only covers the 4.1-ounces (400 grams) cans.

Eating oxidized foods may cause stomach problems such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said....
