FDA Links Suicide And Epilepsy Drugs

Law360, New York (June 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is considering adding suicide warnings to a large class of blockbuster epilepsy drugs after a damaging agency report, regulators said in a meeting with industry representatives Monday.

The Epilepsy Study Consortium hosted a closed-door meeting to discuss clinical trial design on Monday. There, the FDA reiterated to academics and company representatives its concerns that epilepsy drugs promote suicidal thoughts in patients, an FDA spokeswoman said.
