DOJ To Be Tested By Whirlpool Maytag Deal

Law360 (March 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- As the buyout of Maytag Corp. by Rival Whirlpool Corp. looms, all eyes are on the U.S. Department of Justice’s new Antitrust Division leader, who has until the March 30 to either block the $1.7 billion deal or remain silent.

Recent leaks from the Department of Justice indicated government attorneys were opposed to the deal, but the department is tight-lipped about the possible outcome of its research.
