DOJ Clears Beer Companies' Merger

Law360, New York (June 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice cleared the merger of SABMiller Plc and Molson Coors Brewing Company's beer operations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico on Thursday, saying the deal could be good for consumers.

The DOJ said the proposed joint venture was not likely to lessen competition substantially and will reduce the companies' costs, which could translate into lower costs for customers.
