Critics Slam Senate For Blocking Climate Bill Debate

Law360, New York (June 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Democrats and environmentalists have slammed “obstructionist” Republican leaders for blocking debate in the U.S. Senate on a controversial climate bill, effectively shelving the proposed legislation until after the November election.

The Senate on Friday voted 48-36 to proceed with debate on amendments to the Climate Security Act, falling 12 short of the 60 votes needed to allow lawmakers to consider compromises that would keep the measure alive.
