New Patent Suits Drop Off Sharply From Last Year

Law360, New York (October 8, 2014, 6:31 PM EDT) -- The number of new patent cases filed in federal court dropped by 40 percent this September in comparison with last year, the legal analytics firm Lex Machina reported Wednesday, perhaps demonstrating the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling in Alice Corp.

While plaintiffs filed 549 new federal court patent cases in September 2013, they lodged just 329 patent suits this September, representing a 40 percent decrease, according to Lex Machina.
