Slew Of Retailers Hit With Patent Suit Over Coupons

Law360, New York (June 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Connecticut company has sued several national retail chains alleging that they are infringing one of its patents for coupon technology.

Motivation Innovations LLC filed suit on Wednesday in the District of Delaware against Bed, Bath & Beyond Inc., Hallmark Cards Inc., DSW Inc. and Value City Department Stores LLC.

The company claims that the point-of-sale coupon redemption systems used at the chains infringes U.S. patent number 5,612,527, titled "Discount offer redemption system and method" and issued in 1997.
