Converse Sues Dozens Over Chuck Taylor Sneaker TMs

Law360, New York (October 14, 2014, 5:20 PM EDT) -- Nike Inc.'s Converse Inc. filed a flood of trademark litigation on Tuesday over its iconic Chuck Taylor sneakers, accusing 31 companies — including huge retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and major rivals such as Skechers USA Inc. — of selling and importing knockoff footwear.

In parallel cases lodged at the International Trade Commission and in New York federal court, Converse says the companies are infringing its trademark rights by copying the core design features of the Chuck — a design Converse described in court documents as “probably the most widely recognized ... in the history of footwear."
