AstraZeneca Asks Ala. Court To Toss $215M Verdict

Law360, New York (June 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- AstraZeneca LP has asked an Alabama judge to reject at least part of a $215 million jury verdict against the company in a Medicaid drug pricing suit filed by the state of Alabama.

At a hearing Monday, AstraZeneca argued that the jury's February verdict had no basis, saying that the state had failed to prove that it was damaged by alleged AstraZeneca misconduct.

AstraZeneca is asking the court to vacate the verdict, or at least reduce the punitive damages award consistent with Alabama law.
