DHS Pushes E-Verify Program For Contractors

Law360, New York (June 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has proposed a rule designating E-Verify as the electronic employment eligibility verification system all federal contractors would be required to use under a recent order signed by President Bush.

Under the DHS' proposed rule, announced Monday, federal contractors will be required to screen all new hires and current employees who will work on federal contracts through E-Verify, a free Internet-based system that allows enrolled employers to confirm the legal status of new hires within seconds.
