EBay Delays Australia PayPal Plan

Law360, New York (June 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Following criticism by Australia's competition regulator, eBay has postponed a plan to require that all transactions on its site be processed with PayPal, which it owns.

The new payment rules — which would ban the use of personal checks, direct deposits and money orders — were set to go in effect on Tuesday but will now be delayed until July 15. If the rules go into effect, Australia would be the first country in with eBay's PayPal-only rules.
