CMS Axes Sunshine Act Exemption For Continuing Education

Law360, New York (November 3, 2014, 5:41 PM EST) -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued a final rule on Friday incorporating changes to the Physician Payments Sunshine Act that will require drug and device makers to report previously exempt payments to doctors at certain medical events.

In its final version of a rule updating payment policies and rates for services under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2015, CMS streamlined reporting requirements under the law and provided greater transparency by deleting an exclusion for reporting financial support by drug and device makers of continuing medical education approved by certain organizations.
