American Wins New Trial Over Skycap Tips

Law360, New York (June 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Massachusetts federal judge has ordered a new trial for American Airlines Inc. in a case in which skycaps were awarded more than $325,000 for denied tip compensation, ruling that a jury was given erroneous instructions regarding the airline's liability to independent contractors.

U.S. District Judge William G. Young of the District of Massachusetts ruled on Friday that a retrial was necessary on American's liability regarding eight skycaps who were contracted to work for the airline by G2 Secure Staff.
