High Court To Hear Pregnancy Discrimination Act Case

Law360 (June 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case that examines how retirement benefits should have been calculated for women working at AT&T Corp. who took maternity leave prior to the enactment of a 1978 federal law prohibiting discrimination against those who take such leave.

The case centers on the question of whether AT&T workers should have been given service credits toward retirement for maternity leave taken before the Pregnancy Discrimination Act went into effect.
