U.K. Strikes At Heart Of E.C. Competition Office

Law360 (April 10, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission has reacted with indignation after a British official lambasted the E.C.’s efforts at tackling alleged anti-competitive behavior among many of the European body’s member states.

The comments were made by Gordon Brown, the United Kingdom’s Chancellor to the MPs on the Commons Treasury Committee. Brown took aim directly at moves made recently by E.C. Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes.

Brown called on the E.C. to create a new, independent panel within the organization to address the lack of liberalization in the energy sector....
