Bone Fusing Products Pose Risk, FDA Says

Law360, New York (July 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Bone growth products made by Medtronic Inc. and Stryker Corp. may cause serious complications in neck-bone fusion procedures, the FDA warned physicians Tuesday.

The FDA has received at least 38 reports that the products can cause swelling of neck and throat tissue when they are used in cervical spine fusions, according to a letter from Daniel Schultz MD, director of the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health.
