Panel Recommends More Testing for Diabetes Drugs

Law360 (July 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration should require pharmaceutical companies to conduct studies examining the effect of new diabetes drugs on the heart, an advisory committee recommended Wednesday.

A panel of outside scientific experts voted 14-2 to recommend that the FDA require drugmakers to submit results of long-term clinical trials of drugs for Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease, in order to rule out an unacceptable risk of heart attack.
