Court Stays Visto-RIM Suit For Scrutiny Of Patents

Law360 (July 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal court judge has approved a request by Research in Motion Ltd. to put a patent infringement suit brought by Visto Corp. on hold while the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office re-examines the patents at issue in the case.

Magistrate Judge Charles Everingham of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas approved RIM's motion Wednesday, saying he was “mindful” of concerns raised by Visto but noting that some claims asserted by Visto have already been narrowed in various re-examination proceedings.
