Alaska Court Reinstates Greenpeace Captain Verdict

Law360, New York (July 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An Alaska appeals court reinstated a jury verdict for criminal negligence against a Greenpeace Inc. ship captain Thursday and remanded the case to the district court for post-trial motions.

In July 2004, the U.S. branch of Greenpeace chartered the Arctic Sunrise for use in its anti-logging campaign in Alaska.

The ship is owned and operated by Netherlands-based organization Stichting Marine Services, which provides vessels exclusively for Greenpeace International, which can then grant national Greenpeace branches use of the ships.
