In-House Counsel A Popular Cost-Cutting Tool: Study

Law360 (July 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Major corporations will increasingly turn toward in-house counsel in response to mounting economic pressures, according to a recent survey of chief legal officers published by Altman Weil Inc.

The survey, which was published in June, offers a glimpse into shifting trends within corporate law departments. Some 126 chief legal officers responded to the survey.

Half of the respondents said they planned to hire additional in-house counsel during the next year, as opposed to just 35.8% who said they would expand their in-house legal teams in 2006....
