EU Backs A Compromise On Gas Unbundling

Law360, New York (July 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Parliament voted on Wednesday in support of a measure to liberalize the natural gas market without enforcing full unbundling, reaching a compromise between the European Commission's proposal and concerns expressed by France and Germany.

In a 572-80 vote, parliament members backed a model for unbundling that would allow gas companies to hold on to the pipelines they own as long as they set a required structure and follow rules meant to ensure that in practice, the two branches operate independently of one another....
