DOE Not Ready To Manage Eco-Energy Loans: GAO

Law360, New York (July 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Energy is not ready to effectively manage a federal loan guarantee program meant for innovative environmental energy projects, according to a new study by the Government Accountability Office.

The GAO released the study on Monday as an analysis into the DOE's Loan Guarantee Program, which was created under Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The program is supposed to help fund energy projects that would decrease air pollutants or greenhouse gases, while still having a reasonable prospect of repayment....
