ConAgra Files Suit Over Egg-Substitute Patent

Law360 (April 18, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- ConAgra Foods Inc., one of the largest food manufacturers in North America, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against rival distributor Michael Foods to protect its popular egg-substitute product.

Nebraska-based ConAgra Foods manufactures the Egg Beaters liquid eggs line, an egg substitute made out of high protein egg whites to help lower cholesterol. Michael Foods announced it was planning to introduce two new egg-substitute products that include cheese, a procedure patented by ConAgra.
