Pharmaceutical Industry Revises Code Of Conduct

Law360, New York (July 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America has revised its Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals to prohibit pharmaceutical sales representatives from distributing gifts and wining and dining health care professionals, the organization announced Thursday.

The code is voluntary, and the revisions will take effect in January 2009.

The organization, which represents many of the country's leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, said the code revision was another step in its effort to promote transparency in the relationship between health care professionals and the pharmaceutical industry....
