Study: Drug Companies Move To Deter Generics

Law360, New York (April 20, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- With patents of at least 14 top-selling drugs set to expire within the next five years, the brand name drug industry is mobilizing to block generic drug companies from selling cheaper versions of the drugs, according to a study released Tuesday.

Generic versions of the drugs could save seniors and the U.S. Medicare system at least $23 billion, but branded drug companies are looking to keep the drugs out of the hands of generic rivals, according to a study by the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA)....
