Exxon Begins Work On Disputed Alaskan Gas Field

Law360, New York (July 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Though the Alaskan government has not yet approved its drilling plans, Exxon Mobil Corp. said Monday that it had already moved forward with hiring contractors to help it mine the North Slope's Point Thomson oil field.

The state's Department of Natural Resources has been fighting a court battle against the oil giant for the Point Thomson property. Exxon and its partners violated the terms of the leases by not developing the fields for over 30 years, the department says.
