PTO Plans Work-Sharing Program With Europe, Japan

Law360 (July 16, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In an effort to expedite the application examination process among different patent offices, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is gearing up to launch a pilot work-sharing program this month for patent authorities in the United States, Europe and Japan.

In the Triway pilot program, the PTO, the European Patent Office and the Japan Patent Office will share the results from their searches of applications filed in their respective offices as a way to cut down on the agencies’ workloads, the PTO said Tuesday.
