Judge Blasts Settlement Plan In Spokane Diocese Case

Law360, New York (April 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has expressed concerns over a $45.7 million proposed settlement agreement between the bankrupt Catholic Diocese of Spokane and 75 sex abuse victims, saying the deal may not give fair treatment to all parties involved.

Judge Patricia Williams, who is overseeing the Chapter 11 proceedings, did not rule against the settlement offer, as was widely reported.

She did say at a scheduling hearing this week that a plan must be confirmed by September or she will consider dismissing the case, according to James Stang...
