Anheuser-Busch Loses Bid to Stop Czech Rival from Registering Trademark

Law360, New York (December 17, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc.'s bid to keep Czech brewer Budejovicky Budvar from registering its name as a European Community trademark was rejected by the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market of the European Union (OHIM) this week.

The U.S. brewer, long embroiled in a global battle over the right to the Budweiser brand with the smaller Czech rival, had argued that registration of the name would be confused with its Bud trademark.
