Sanofi Stalls Generic Plavix Launch In Germany

Law360, New York (July 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The launch of a generic version of the blockbuster blood-thinning drug Plavix will be delayed in Germany until the German government can sort out a challenge from Plavix maker Sanofi-Aventis SA.

Andreas Rummelt, the chief executive of Novartis AG's Sandoz generics division, announced the delay Thursday during the company's half-year results update.

Novartis' Sandoz, along with a privately held German firm, is set to sell the Plavix generic under a distribution agreement with Schweizerhall Holding Ltd., a Swiss-based pharmaceutical company, Dow Jones reported.
