State Attorneys General Tapped To Aid Oil Probe

Law360 (April 26, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Fresh off President George W. Bush’s request for a probe into possible price-gouging by oil companies, the U.S. Attorney General’s office and the Federal Trade Commission are seeking help from the state attorneys general in mobilizing the effort.

“Consumers around the nation have expressed concerns about what they have perceived as anti-competitive or otherwise unfair conduct by the world's major oil companies,” wrote U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and FTC Chairwoman Deborah Majoras in a joint letter, dated Tuesday.
