6th Circ. Blocks Age Bias Case Against Lucent

Law360 (July 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has blocked hundreds of former Lucent Technologies Inc. employees from bringing an age discrimination action against the telecommunications firm.

On Thursday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit upheld a lower court’s grant of summary judgment to Lucent.

The suit accused the company of keeping senior employees in the dark about the status of a potential 2001 merger with Alcatel SA so that they would accept early retirement benefits packages.
