Patent Applications Drop Sharply in Sweden

Law360, New York (December 21, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- In what amounts to a “serious development” for Sweden’s business community, patent applications have dropped dramatically over the past three years, the Swedish Patent Office said Friday.

From January 2000 to today, the average monthly number of applications received by the office has declined from 411 to 291, the office said.

“This is, of course, a serious development. Swedish business and commerce are to a great extent built on unique ideas and inventions,” said Ingeborg Giegold, information director at the Patent Office.
