Johns Hopkins Faces $1B Suit Over ‘Horrific’ Syphilis Study

Law360, Los Angeles (April 1, 2015, 10:27 PM EDT) -- Johns Hopkins University, the Rockefeller Foundation and others were hit Wednesday with a $1 billion suit in Maryland state court over their roles in “horrific” government experiments that infected hundreds of Guatemalans with syphilis and other venereal diseases.

More than 750 victims, spouses and children claim in the suit that Rockefeller and Johns Hopkins researchers were the driving forces behind the experiments, which took place in the 1940s and 1950s.
